Aattukal Pongala

Famous Aattukal Pongala is again here. This year it is on 19th of February. It is sometimes referred as the Sabarimala of women. Lakhs of women from all over Kerala and even from outside gather there to take part in this special festival of women.

Because of the highest number of women participation, the same has been included in the Guinness Book of world records.

Since the temple at Aattukal is very near to the Thiruvananthapuram city, the worshipers spread even in the city premises like East fort and the neighbouring places.

Attukal Pongala's fame spreads all over the world. It is referred in the Guinness Book of world records.
When the years are passing, the number of devotees increases rapidly. Even the small ones knows about the Attukal Pongala.
This year the records shown that there were 30 lakhs women devotees who offer Pongala for Attukal Amma. Many foreigners anciously come to the Trivandrum city and offer Pongal on that day.
The city pemises were full of women devotees offering Pongala and there will be huge traffic on that day - both morning and evening.

Attukal Pongala is a congregation of women to offer Pongala.It is an offering of boiled rice in earthern pot during the Malayalam month of Kumbham(February-March). Attukal Pongala has become a symbol of devotion and dedication to Devi, the Mother goddess and above all a celebration of womanhood. Attukal is a Hindu pilgrimage centre in Thiruvananthapuram(Kerala), India. It is situated about two kilometres to the south east from Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram City.
