Kerala and West Bengal are ruled by the CPI(M) and its alliance. Mr. M. Karunadhi is in power in Tamil Nadu. Indian National Congress is power in Assam and Pondicherry is also ruled by Congress with its alliance partners.
Both Kerala and West Bengal elections are very crucial as far as the CPI(M)is concerned as this is the first election they are facing after the humilating defeat in the 2009 General Elections in which the party was almost wiped out all over the country. As far congress is concerned, Kerala is a prestigious state since as per the routine, this is their turn and term, though they have tasted set backs in many byelectoins and state elections after 2009 general election.
