These announcements are just Election stunts. Don't give much weight to those. However, the sale at Rs.2/- has already been implemented, since it was announced and implemented before starting the election procedures. This also may not be going to continue after election.

The main problem with Kerala is that for rice we have to depend on other States. Our production level is far below to our demand. Rice is the staple food of Keralites. So for implementing the above slogans (Rice for Rs 2/- or 1/-) we have to increase our rice production.

Present Government have done something positive in this line. Hectares of uncultivated lands have been converted into cultivated through joint farming system.If this trend is allowed to continue something can be expected.

For reducing the cultivation expenses, wherever possible,different Government sponsored schemes such as NREGS, subsidy schemes, etc. have to be combined and brought in.
