Do you believe anti-plastic campaign will be successful in our cities?

CALICUT CITY RECENTLY WITNESSED THE DREAM PROJECT(MAP-2010) FOR THE ERADICATION OF PLASTIC WASTE IN THE CITY.BUT DO FACE OF THE PRESENT CALICUT CITY MAKE US AWARE OF THE THREATS OF PLASTICS? IELECTION HAVE HIGHLY INCREASED THE USE OF FLUX AND PLASTICS IN THE CITY PRESENTLY.
WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THE PRACTICAL POSSIBILITIES OF SIMILAR AWARENESS PROGRAMS IN CITIES OF KERALA?

Anti-plastic campaign is useful. It will, at least, make aware of the problems involved in the wide use of plastic materials. It is true that in this modern age one cannot completely avoid plastic. But there are several types of plastics in our market.

Re-usable ones and those which can be recycled must replace the throw-away stuff. There are rules existing regarding the use of plastic carry bags. Minimum thickness should be 50 micron. But this still violated by sop keepers. Of course these are produced by some parties violating the rules. The should also be controlled.

For allowing our soil to continue as fertile it is a must that the plastic bags are not scattered over here.

Anti plastic campaign like the other campaigns will be successful to the extent it is implemented properly by the authorities. That is only one side. The other side is our involvement. Every one of us should stick to the principle of using alternate source like paer or cloth etc in place of plastic cover.

The maximum nuiscence of plastic is from the carry bags. These bags are very convenient to the users, because of its foldability. It occupies very little space and is easy to cary. That is the factor which makes the olastic carry bags dear to everybody.

But we should think of the evil effects of the non recyclable plastics. After use of 3-4 times it becomes non usable because of the tearing or holes. These are just thrown away. Since these are not reusable and also not degradable they lie around the places in the earth. Since they are non porous they do not allow the air circulatin in the earth which is not conducive to recycling of waste or coverting the bio degradable itms into manure. This affects the cultivation.
If we look around us we will find the non reusable and recyclable plastics littered around us.

Therefore we should starat from ourselves to use only carry bags of alternate materials which are eco friendly. We should inform authorities and media abnout the violataions by the shopkeepers, if any. Where ever it is unavoidable to use plastic, we should see that the same can be recycled.

I had been to Tirupati sometimeback and I find that the ban is successful there. I have also been to other places where the plastic cary bags are banned and the ban is successful there.

Hence it should be possible to make the ban successful her

Plastic has become one of the hazardous pollutant. Though it is one of the most useful substance it affects our environment very badly. The release of toxic pollutants, greenhouse gas, litter, biodegradable and non-biodegradable landfill- all these contributes to pollution. Recently enormous quantities of plastic trash has been found in ocean depths.

For decades one of the great advantage of plastics has been their low price and also it is very convenient to use.

So we need to promote such anti plastic campaigns and all citizens must take part in it . One thing we have to remember is that its not just for our own good but also for the coming generations welfare.

We have to use alternatives for plastics like paper bags and cotton bags. Thereby minimizing the use of plastic. Instead of throwing away plastic bags we must give them for recycling and re-using. Such small efforts can make a big change.
