K.R.Rajan IAS passed away

K.R.Rajan IAS, formerly Collector of Ernakulam district passed away. He was ailing for the last few months.
As an able administrator he had successfully completed several projects in the district. The most remembered one among them is the Total Literacy Programme of the district. He was in front of the campaign for attaining hundred percent literacy in Ernakulam district.He coordinated the programme with the support of several agencies like Kerala Sastra Sahitya Parishat. Thus in 1989 Ernakulam became the first totally literate district in the country.

This inspired the State Government and took up the total literacy campaign throughout the State following the Ernakulam model and could become the first State to become totally literate in 1999.
