Train travel is no more cheap.
Union Railway Minister has announced hike in railway fares and the same is to come into effect from January 21st. Why such a decision is taken at this time when the Railway Budget is to be presented within two months, is not clear. Officials say it was inevitable. In Kerala the railway fares are very cheap compared to bus fare. Hence this is going to affect the daily commuters who depend on train for their journey to work place and back.
The second class fare between Thiruvananthapuram and Delhi will be increasing by Rs.124/- per ticket, sleeper charges by Rs.186/-. The increase in AC 3-tier for the same route will be Rs.312/- , the same for AC 2-tier Rs.189/- and for AC first class Rs. 313/-.
