Income guarantee scheme for farmers; free laptop for students
2014 budjet released.Thiruvananthapuram: Finance Minister K M Mani began his budget 2013-14 by announcing projects beneficial to farmers. An insurance plan offering income to farmers having 2 hectares of agricultural land would be implemented and the govt has allocated Rs 50 crore for this insurance plan.
A health plan was also announced for small time farmers. The health insurance announced for farmers owning 2 hectares of agricultural land, the govt would pay 50 pc of the premium and a sum of Rs 50 crore has been set aside.
Free laptop for girls
Mani said that the govt plans to give free laptops to girls of small time farmers who are studying professional courses. Farmers with less than a hectare of agri land and those with 2 hectares of paddy cultivation would be benefitted with this. The govt allocated Rs 10 crore for this health insurance. 25 cash crops will be included in insurance scheme, Mani said.
If the head of a family passes away in unforseen circumstances, the govt will pay back the loan to an extent of Rs 50000.
Finance Minister K M Mani began his record 12 th budget presentation in the Assembly on Friday. Mani holds the record for presenting the most number of budgets in the assembly. With the Lok Sabha elections in April-May, people expect a people friendly budget.
Mani sought blessings at the Lourdes church in Thiruvananthapuram and proceeded straight to the House to present the budget.
