    Onam celebrations in Kerala

    Onam is ten days festival in Kerala. All religions are celebrated Malayala first month of chiggam , thiruvonam star. The Kerala peoples believed the greatest King Mahabali comes and see his people living happily. Its starts on Atham day, 10days before Thiruvonam.

    Onam is being celebrated by Malayalam speaking people all over the world. It creates a sort of a nostalgic feeling when involve oneself in this celebration. Onam celebration has a historical/mythological/agricultural background.

    Historical one relates to the Thrikkakara Temple and a kingdom (Perumal kingdom) ruled the then Kerala. Mythological one relates to the Asura Kiing Mahabali and the Vishnu's Vamana reincarnation. Agricultural reason is simply that the Onam days are just after the harvest season. People celebrate when they get good harvest.

    ONAM is the most important festival of Malayalees. The festival is like synonym or symbol of prosperity to Malayalees all over the globe.
