Kerala Teachers to get Laptops at discount prices

Kerala government's IT arm, IT@School, is offering laptops at discount prices to 50,000 teachers in Kerala. A laptop will cost Rs.17,770 and a netbook Rs.11,450. The discount comes to as much as 36-37 percent. This will help teachers to acquire laptops at huge discount to the market price. . Orders will be executed on a first-come-first-serve basis. Teachers of government schools and government-aided schools will be eligible for this scheme.
Three companies - HCL, RP Infosystems and Wipro - will be supplying the laptops while the first two are contracted to supply the netbook.
Normally the laptop-netbook and its accessories come with one-year warranty. But this government scheme will ensures 3-year warranty, including that for the battery and power adapter, which is a unique facility provided to IT@School purchases only.
Let us hope that with this pro-active step taken by the government, the IT literacy of our teachers' community will improve, ultimately benefitting the student community immensely.

This is a good piece of action from the State Govt. Teacher folk should avail the chance and take the benefit without any commercial eye.

This a good action taken by the Kerala Government. The schools in Kerala are becoming smart these days. Most of the students are exposed to IT and its applications. They have developed their own sites or blogs. They make use of the computer technology in their daily classes. These are clearly seen in the reality show called "Haritha Vidyalayam".

The project IT@School is doing a good job. The Channel 'VICTERS', a project of IT@school is also serving a lot towards the education.

Under such a set up the teachers must be well equipped to guide their students. Hence a laptop will definitely be an asset to them as well as to the students, indirectly.

The idea is good one.But the fruitfulness of the project depends on how many of them use this for educational purpose rather than their personal use. Many are still not aware of the usage of desktop computers. But this offer made them to inquire about it!
