Hai Mohan sir,
Actually Makara Vilakku is a ritual while Makara jyothi is considered as the star which appears on the sky after the dusk on Makara Samkranthi day. Almost kerala devotees are are aware of this, but devotees from Andhra, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka are not much aware of this. Kerala Goverment and Devaswom Board also did not reveal the truth behind Makara Vilakku, Whether it is artificial or not? They should tell to public that Makara Vilakku is ritul which should do on that auspecious day of Makara Samkranthi. There will not come any divinity problem or misunder standing. Like All temples, churches are keeping its own rituals, in Sabarimala also can do.
In 2008, the supreme priest of the Sabarimala temple Kantaru Maheswararu made have clear in a letter that Makar Jyothi is a star that comes in view in the sky above the temple around dusk time on the first day of the month of Makaram and Makara Villaku is a light which is lit after the star appears in the sky.
Thanking You
