About Malampuzha
Malampuzha is a small township which takes ots name from the river Malampuzha which flows through Palakaad as well as the dam of the same name near the town. The attractions in the dam are amusement park, Boating facilities, rock garden and ropeway.
This Malampuzha river is a tributary of the longest river of Kerala Bharathapuzha.
About the Malampuzha Dam
This is a lushgreen township which has been a famous tourist attraction for the south indians for a long time. There have been many movies shot in the area in the early sixties of last century. This has been a tourist attraction for the trekking trails it offersnad the beautiful irrigation dam.
About the facilities and the reacreations at the Park
There are beautiful gardens built around the reservoir as well as An amusement park. Boating facilities are available on the lake. There are other beautiful attrations in the area and they are a beautiful rock garden, a fish shaped aquarium, the snake park, a rope way for an aerial view of the amusement park and a gigantic Yakshi or an enchantress sculpted by Kunjiramn the famous sculptor of Kerala. The most interesting part of the rock garden at Malampuzha Dam is that the whole place is made of unwanted and thrown away things like Broken bangles, used plastic cans, tins and other waste materials. This garden has been created by the sculptor Padmsree Neckchand saini who is the sculptor of a similar Rock garden in Chandigarh.
How to Reach Malampuzha Dam
You can reach either Coimbatore airport in Tamil nadu or the Kochi international airport in Kerala if you are travelling by air. From there you can hire vehicles from the prepaid taxi counter inside the airport.
You can also travel by train to Palakkad , which a junction in the southern Railway. From the Palakkad town the dam is just 10 kilometers away.
If you are travelling by Road you can take the natiomal highway from Coimbatore whicpalakkad town. From there you can reach Malampuzha Dam in no time.
Accommodations are available in malampuzha but you can find only budget accommodations. If you need any good star hotel to stay the night, you will have tocome back to Palakkad town.
