Mamta Mohandas is a Malayali girl who hails from Kannur district of Kerala. She was born on 14th November 1985 and was brought up in Manama, Bahrain, where her father works. She did her schooling in the Indian School, Bahrain and have further moved on to Bangalore to pursue a Bachelor's degree. There she studied at the Mount Carmel College. She has learned Carnatic and Hindustani music as well.

Mamta Mohandas was trained in Carnatic and Hindustani music from childhood. She first portrayed herself as a singer by singing the title track in the Telugu movie "Rakhi". In 2006 she won the Filmfare Best Female Playback Singer Award for this song. Thus Mamta became famous as a singer in Telugu film industry before she became an actress in Telugu. At the age of 26, Mamta got engaged to her childhood family friend Prajith Padmanabhan. The ceremony took place on a magical date 11-11-11.
