How to prepare ulli vada?

Ulli vada is one of the most famous snack items in Kerala.The main ingredient of ulli vada is onion. If we consume more onion then it improves our eye power. Onion reduces body temperature and keeps the body to be cool. It is very easy to prepare ulli vada and it requires only few ingredients. It requires less time for preparation. It consumes less oil when we use rice flour in it. It can be served along with chaya (Tea).Ingredients required for ulli vada
1. Onion: 2 (large size)
2. Green chilly: 2
3. Rice flour: ½ cup
4. Ginger: 1 tsp (sliced)
5. Baking soda: ¼ tsp
6. Curry leaves: 4-5(chopped)
7. Salt (as required)
8. Oil (for frying)
9. Maida (plain flour): 1 cup
10. Water(as required)Steps to prepare ulli vada
Step 1: First finely cut the onion into small slices.
Step 2: Mix Maida, rice flour, onion, green chilly, ginger, baking soda, curry leaves, salt with little water.
Step 3: Close the mixture with a lid for 10-20 minutes until it became soft.
Step 4: Take little bit of mixture, shape it like a ball and then flatten it.
Step 5: Deep fry the onion mixture into the oil until both sides of the vada turns into golden brown.
Step 6: Serve it with sauce or coconut chutney.
Extra tip: To make the vada crispier some corn flour mix is added with the onion.
