The voters of Kerala are going today (10th April) to the election booth to cast their vote. The polling will be from morning 7 to 6 in the evening. Getting majority in the Lok Sabha Election 2014 is a matter of their prestige for both UDF and LDF. All pre-poll surveys give UDF getting majority over LDF among the 20 constituencies in Kerala. The ruling congress led UDF had won 16 seats in the Lok Sabha 2009 election. Along with national issues, local issues like the performance of the UDF Government headed by Oommen Chandy, corruption and anxieties caused by the Western Ghats conservation report have dominated the campaign with the rival fronts seizing on them to attack each other.
Candidates of BJP, UDF and LDF are contesting for all 20 seats in the state. Aam Admi Party is also trying their luck this time in Kerala. Contestants for UDF includes 6 union Ministers - Shashi Tharoor, Kodikunnil Suresh, K C Venugopal, K V Thomas, Mullapally Ramachandran (all Congress) and E Ahamed (IUML). Sitting MPs of the CPI (M)- A Sampath, M B Rajesh, P K Biju and P Karunakaran-- are seeking a fresh mandate from the same constituencies that they won in 2009. The Aam Admi Party (AAP) has put up candidates in 15 seats and they include noted writer and activist Sarah Joseph (Thrissur) and journalist Anita Prathap (Ernakulam). Former Union Minister Sri Rajagopal of BJP is contesting against Sasi Tharoor in Thiruvanathapuram constituency.
