Guava toffees are easy to make and delicious also. More than that, guava is a nutrient rich fruit and is categorized as "super fruits". Due to its adapting power it is considered as a commercial crop in most of the regions. Scientific name of guava is "Psidium Guajava". This toffee have now become a part of all malayali people's life.
Ingredients
1) Guava pulp - 1 kg (12 guavas)
2) Sugar - 1 kg
3) Citric acid - 4 gm
4) Salt - a pinch
5) Butter - 50 gm
6) Colour - red ( a pinch )
How to prepare
Wash all the guavas properly. Slightly ripen guavas are cut into small pieces and some water (1/2 litres) is added to it. Boil it properly till the guavas become soft. Put this in the kitchen master and remove the pulp. After cooking for sometime add sugar to it. When the entire sugar gets dissolved add citric acid. When being cooked keep on adding little butter and put little salt too. From this take a small quantity of mixture and put it in cold water.
When it is properly cooled a clot is formed or the mixture leaves the side of the vessel. After removing from the gas put it in the tray which is covered with butter. With the help of spoon make one level. While making the level on top pour some butter over it. Toffee mill requires 6 to 8 hours after it is set. Cut it with a knife into small pieces. Now you have your delicious guava toffees in front of you. Enjoy the sweet taste of this toffee. 2) Mango Toffee
Mango toffees are also a delicious dish to have. Due to the vast availability of mangoes and its sweet taste, people in Kerala have considered it to be the best among toffees. Moreover mangoes also have many health benefits like cancer prevention, control cholesterol, improves skin quality, good eyesight, maintain some metabolic activities of human bodies etc. So do try this mouth watering dish at home.
Ingredients
1) Mango pulp - 1 kg ( 8 to 9 medium sized mangoes )
2) Sugar - 1 kg
3) Citric acid - 4 gm
4) Salt - a pinch
5) Butter - 50 gm
6) Colour - orange, red or tartazine.
How to prepare
Wash all the mangoes well. All the fresh mangoes are sliced and put it into 1/2 litres of water. When it is properly cooked, remove the pulp or juice from it and check its weight. Cook for little while and put sugar to it. When sugar dissolves add citric acid. Rest of the process are also similar to the guava toffee. When being cooked keep on adding little butter and a pinch of salt too. From this take a small quantity of mixture and put it in cold water.
