Parthasarathy temple located near Pamba river is considered to be as the grama kshetram in Kerala. It is also believed to be one among the five temples of Pancha Pandava temple. According to belief, Lord Vishnu gave his darshan to Brahma and Vasa from this place. Also, it is believed to be that Brahma got the knowledge of creation from this destination.

As per belief, the idol of Lord Vishnu is believed to be installed by Pandava Arjuna during their pilgrimage. Arjuna installed Lord Vishnu's idol in Nilakkal near Sabarimala. Since Nilallakal is a dense forest, Lord Vishnu's idol was brought to Aranmula in a raft made of six pieces of Bamboo. Hence the name Aranmula was given to the place. 
Actually, idol of Vishnu was early installed in Nilakkal to remove the sin performed by Arjuna in war. Arjuna killed Karna, the unarmed enemy against the rights of battle. It is believed that Arjuna installed Lord Vishnu's idol in Nilakkal to expiate for the sin performed during war. As said earlier, idol was then moved to place near Pamba river in Aranmula.Lord Krishna with discus
Lord Krishna's idol here is enshrined with discus. This story is also connected with Kurukshetra battle of earlier times. Temple is decorated with a flag staff and four towers over entrance on outer wall. In the northern side of temple, you can see a descending 57 steps to reach the Pamba river. When searched, you can see that the temple architecture is similar to that of Ettumanoor Mahadeva temple in Kerala. People in Aranmula consider Lord Parthasarathy as their protector.
