General Information About Mananchira Square
Mananchira Square is situated at the heart of Kozhikode city. The term Mananchira is derived from a ruler of Zamoothiri Empire, Manadevan, and 'Chira', meaning pond in local language Malayalam. Thus Mananchira means Manan-devane's Chira (pond). Mananchira Square was opened in 1994 as a recreational spot for the people. Then after, it become an important part of the historical Kozhikode. Infact, Kozhikode city is marked by the Mananchira Square. This place was used as the courtyard of the former rulers Zamoothiris in Kozhikode. The Mananchira pond was once used by the Zamoothiris for their private bath. The place offers an excellent spot for recreational activities amidst the city life. There are many religiously important centres and some stadiums in and around the Mananchira Square. Many important festivals and events in North Kerala are celebrated from this beautiful place. Temples, churches and mosques surround Mananchira Square along with some houses built in the traditional Kerala style. The whole square is circled by a laterite-sculptured wall. From Private bus stand and KSRTC Stand
You won't get buses from private bus stand and KSRTC bus stand to Mananchira Square. But when you reach these stands, Mananchira is at a walkable distance of just 1km. Otherwise you can catch an auto-rickshaw to Mananchira. It will cost only Rs.10, the minimum charge. There is another option if you want to travel by bus. Take the city buses from Fathima hospital or Mavoor road junction. It costs only Rs. 4. It is better you choose auto-rickshaws.
From Kozhikode Railway Station.
Kozhikode railway station is also very close to Mananchira Square, around 1km away. You will get auto-rickshaws from the station or city buses are also available to Mananchira Square. Both costs the minimum charge.
From Karipur International Airport

The slow wind blowing in the air and the beautiful sky will shed all your burdens in the day time. This place has beautiful artificially created landscapes, sculptures and lawns lined with trees and plants. Commonwealth Trust Office, one of the city's oldest organisation and major establishments such as the Town hall, Lalitakala Academy hall, public library, Jama'atpalli mosque and Muchhandipalli mosque are situated around the square. The Mashkaal mosque in Kuttichira is a famous mosque close to Mananchira. Although this is a Muslim mosque, both Muslims and Hindus consider it as sacred. Lalitkala Academy hosts various art programs in the city. There is a basket ball ground where many competitions are conducted by the authorities.
