Kocheril Raman Narayanan, the tenth President of India, was born on Perumthanam, Uzhavoor village in Kottayam district. He is the first and single Malayali who happened to be the President of India. He is commonly regarded as independent and assertive President of India. Born in a Dalit family, he was able to climb so many heights in Indian politics. K R Narayanan was born in a Dalit family. After the studying in Kerala he worked as a journalist in Kerala. Then he took his degree in Political Science in London School of Economics with the help of scholarship. He came into work for India in the Nehru administration itself as a member of Indian foreign service. It was in 1949. Later he become the foreign ambassador Japan, United Kingdom, Thailand, Turkey, People's Republic of China and United States of America. As an affiliation to his works and efforts, Nehru referred him as the 'best diplomat of the country'. He was also elected as Minister of State under Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. He was elected as the ninth Vice-President of India in 1992 and after the completion of period, he was elected as the President of India. He was the President of India from 25 July 1997 to 25 July 2002. He was died on 9 November 2005,at the age of 85, in New Delhi.
