Why Sreesanth Can't be Kerala IPL Team Captain?
Undoubtedly Sreesanth is the single Kerala player who has been enjoying a long carrier in Indian cricket team. Although there are many criticism against the pace bowler, he is the single one Kerala Cricket Association could produce in front of the world with something to show. Still he is the only one Kerala bowler who has got a hat-trick in his name in Ranji trophy. All these facts are true. But Captaincy is different from performance and history. There are strong reasons to believe that Sreesanth can't be the captain of Kerala IPL team in the next season.
(i)Sreesanth's Aggressiveness
Aggressiveness is always a plus point to players. But when it reaches a higher level it is a head-ache to the player and the team itself. Sreesanth is in this list. He has been showing his over aggressiveness. He was warned by BCCI many times. He was fined. Still, he was not ready to learn this fact and he did the same in last year's IPL matches too. A harassment towards umpire can't be entertained in anyway. And with this type of temper, how he can control a team like Kerala IPL team in this event?
(ii) Experience of Sreesanth as Captain
Sreesanth has a very good experience in Indian cricket team as a pace bowler. He may be the best bowler in Kerala. But he didn't lead a big team like Kerala IPL team with lots of big names. Of course, he lead Kerala team in many matches. But all those are small events comparing to IPL matches. There will be many players with more experience than Sreesanth in Kerala IPL team after the auction of players is over.
(iii) Sreesanth's record in Twenty-twenty
Sreesanth is the single player in Kerala to play an International twenty-twenty match. But his recent records and whole twenty-twenty records point that he is not good enough even to play in the team itself. He has a very bad economy rate of 8.7 in his ten International twenty-twenty. He was omitted from the twenty-twenty Indian team for world cup. And if he was of some sort of handy, Punjab IPL team might had included him in the playing eleven for last year's IPL season. He got a few chances in last years IPL season and his performance in that was not a promising one from a player of International experience.
(iv) Inclusion of Other Players in Kerala IPL team
There will be players other than Sreesanth with more experience and records than Sreesanth in Kerala IPL team. The players' auction is not over yet. And all the teams are having almost equal probabilities of getting players. Even Azharudeen had shown his willingness to play for Kerala IPL team. And some of the players may be even good captain than Sreesanth with lot of experience as a captain. In all the previous IPL seasons, there are at least two International team Captains in every team.If such players are there in the squad, how we can make Sreesanth as the captain of Kerala IPL team?.
(v) Sreesanth's history with Foreign players
Even the behavior of Sreesanth with foreign players also focus to his out of temper altitude. He has a very harsh experience with Australian players like Mathew Hayden and Andrew Symonds. His previous story with other teams are also not different. If this players are there in the team. How "captain Sreesanth" can handle them?
And his altercation with Harbhajan Singh made other Indian players not to support this pace bowler.
(vi)Official warnings Towards Sreesanth
Sreesanth has been warned by BCCI, ICC and KCA for different issues. BCCI has issued many warnings due to his bad fielding behaviour with other players and his over aggressiveness. He was omitted many times from Indian cricket team due to this reason. During last year IPL matches, due to his bad behaviour toward umpire he was fined. Kerala Cricket Association also issued many warnings due to his repeated violation of code of conduct.
(vii) Sreesanth's altitude towards KCA
This is the main cause that is going to hinder Sreesanth's dream as Kerala IPL team captain. He has been having very bad time with KCA. Recently, he was omitted from the Captain's position of Kerala cricket team. And he also showed his reluctance to play for Kerala in the future. There are many occasions in which this player harassed Kerala Cricket Association. This will really account now as KCA is one of the deciding factor in players selection in Kerala IPL squad itself.Then, Who will be the Captain of Kerala IPL Team?
This question can not be answered now. We have to wait till the last month of this year for the Kerala IPL team's captain. Presently Kerala IPL team does not have any player in the squad. The players' auction will be held only during last part of this year. If players of international value like Azhar, with some experience as Captain are present in the team, they will be the best option as captain. There is a very minute chance for a domestic player to be the Captain of Kerala IPL team.
