INTRODUCTION
Lokanarkavu is one of the famous historical and tourist places in Kerala.It is situated in north malabar region(calicut district) of kerala state.It is about 7km from Vadakara.
MEANING OF THE WORD
The word Lokanarkavu is the short form of lokamalayarkavu which means lokam(world) made of mala(mountain),aaru(river)and kavu(grove).
IMPORTANCE
Lokanarkavu is very much known as the birth place of great warriors like Thacholi othenan,Unniyarcha etc.It is also famous for Mandala Utsavam which is a forty-one day long annual festival in Lokanarkavu temple. The temple is also known for a peculiar folk dance called Poorakkali which almost resembles the martial art kalarippayattu.Nowadays many traditional institutions nearby are giving classes about Kalarippayattu which attracts the tourists.Lokanarkavu is one of the living example to explore the soul of the traditions of Kerala.
