Those who want to reach via Alappuzha and Kottayam gan go through boats.

Vembanad lake is one of the big and beautiful lakes in India and luckily it is situated in Kerala and it is the largest lake of Kerala. It is Separated from the Arabian Sea by a narrow barrier island. several rivers flow into this lake such as Pamba, Achankovil, Periyar etc.
Vembanad lake is at the heart of kerala's backwater tourism with hundreds of kettuvallams crisscrossing it and numerous resorts on its banks. In its eastern coast kumarakam bird sanctuary is located.
The unique characteristics of this lake is the location of Thanneermukkam salt water barrier which was built as a part of Kuttanad Development scheme to prevent the tidal actions and intrusion of salt water in to Kuttanad low land.
