After partition,those players who had played for the India started playing for Pakistan after its creation and after it was granted the Test status. Prime among them were Abdul Hafeez Kardar, Fazal Mahmood, Amir Illahi and Imtiaz Ahmed. Among those who crossed over after the partition was the elderly Gul Mohammed.
In keeping with the demands of Mohammed Ali Jinnah, Pakistan was created a a Muslim Nation, and comprised two parts. One was its western part which included some ares of North India, Baluchistan and Sindh while the other was its eastern part which included part of Bengal which is now Bangladesh, an independent nation. In the list of items exported abroad by Pakistan, its cricketers were on top. Especially in the sense that very beginning, demad for them and their popularity continued to be high in all countries. The initial fame from cricket brought international recognition for the country. At that time cricket players were so popular in Pakistan that the Englishmen found it difficult to believe that the western part of Pakistan is not just famous for its cricketers but also good for quality jute and jute products. Albeits experts on eastern affairs were aware of it.
Just before partiotion and the criterion of a new nation, the Indian team was to leave for its first tour to Australia. As FAzal Mahmood and Kardar decided to settle in PAkistan, they did not go to Australia. The turbulence and political turmoil associated with partion affected the lives of common people in Pakistan as much as it did in India.
