“Vidhyarambham” celebrated in a unique way in Delhi

"Vidyarambham", which is celebrated by all Keralites including those settled across the world was celebrated at the Chinmaya Mission Auditorium in Delhi in a unique way. Three top Bureaucrats, all from Kerala led 134 children by becoming their gurus. Children are helped to write "Om Hari Sri Ganapataye Namah" by their parents on a tray of rice grains. This year it was different as the three bureaucrats helped the children write their first word, on Sunday the Vijayadashami Day. Malayalis irrespective of their caste and creed came forward for this unique event. The 'Vidyarambham' function which lasted for two and half hours started at 8 a.m.
The three IAS Officers who initiated the children were President Pratibha Patil's Secretary Christie Fernandez, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's Principal Secretary T.K.A. Nair and Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao.


They initiated the children by helping them write the mantra "Om Hari Sri Ganapataye Namah" on a tray of rice grains at a function organized by leading Malayalam daily Malayala Manorama at the Chinmaya Mission Auditorium here. The function was oraganized under the auspies of leading Malayalam daily, Malayala Mankrama. Acording to D. Vijayamohan, Malayala Manorama's Delhi bureau chief, "It was an honor for the three top bureaucrats as they had also gone through the ritual in their childhood in Kerala,"
