Oommen Chandy was born on 31 October 1943 in Kumarakom, he is an kerala politician for the Indian National Congress Party.Oommen was the Chief Minister of Kerala from 2004 to 2006, and he's represented the Leader of the opponent in the Kerala legislature since 2006.

Karunakaran-led Congress ministry inherited major power in 1981, Chandy got the government minister for Home from twenty-eight Dec 1981 to seventeen Mar 1982.Oommen Chandyfunctioned as government minister for labour and housing (1977–78), home minister (1981–82) and finance minister (1991–94).Oommen Chandy represented Puthuppally Constituency for the last forty years. Elected to Kerala legislature in 1970, 1977, 1980, 1982, 1987, 1991, 1996, 2001 and 2006.
