The Chottanikara Devi Temple is very powerful and the Divine Mother is known as Rajarajeswari. Women devotees throng the temple every day. " Makam Thozhal" is the most famous festival here.

Chottanikara Devi - a powerful Deity
The temple of Chottanikara located in Ernakulam Dist is a living legend in magnificent mythology and awesome truth. Its historical appeal and traditional influence on generations of people is great. It is a legend that Bhogacharya worshipped the Deity here. The divine deity - a Swayambhoo was worshipped by divine souls like Adisankaracharya, Vilwamangalam Swamiyar, Kakkasseri Bhattathiri and Chemmanagattu Bhattathiri. The splendid shine of the golden hued idol decorated with Flowers, Jewels, garlands and bathed in myriad of light is a treat to the devotees. The divine mother known as Rajarajeswari (Adiparasakthi) is worshipped here in three forms viz. Saraswathy in the morning, Lakshmi at noon and Durga in the evening. Presence of Vishnu on the same pedestal is unique and hence Devi is called "Ammenarayana", "Devinarayana", "Lakshminarayana", "Bhadrenarayana". Alongwith Lakshmi and Narayana, there are the idols of Brahma, Siva, Ganapathi, Subramanya and Sastha here. The temple Complex consists of "Keezhkavu Bhagavathy temple and temples for Shastav, Ganapathi, Nagas, and the Upa-devas. Devotees attain mental peace harmony due to the serene and pleasant atmosphere in the temple.

MAKAM THOZHAL : Makam Thozhal (Worship on Makam day) is the main festival here. This is celebrated in Kumbam (February/March) It is legend that Bhagavathy, in her full attire, gave darsan on a Makam Day to Vilwamangalam Swamiyar and hence, She appears on the same day every year in full attire. A visit to the temple brings relief to the devotees from their mental agonies and anguish of material life. The Keezhkavil Bhadrakali Devi is worshipped to rid the devotees' evil spirits after conducting bhajanas. Here the chief priest of the main deity comes to Keezhkkavu to perform "Valiya Guruthy" (Great sacrifice) every day at 8.45 P.M

The sacred doors of the sanctum sanctorum is daily opened at 4.00 A.M. Sree Mookambika Saraswathi is also believed to be present in the morning hours and this is one of the reason, why Mookambika temple at Kollur is open late, only after the return of Goddess Saraswathy.

The fame of this temple and the power of the deity is growing and it is evident from the fact that the number of devotees from the neighbouring States have increased as per the data with the Cochin Devaswom Board.
