Smart city Kochi, proposed IT based industrial park in Kerala was a dream project proposed by Oomman chandy. He was the man behind this project Unfortunately Oomman chandy was unable to sign the project and consequently even now it remains in the paper. Hope the next udf government under Oomman chandy can fulfill this dream project of Keral
Oommen Chandy government and Smart city
Smart city, kochi is proposed investment project proposed by the Oommen chandy government. Smart city is an IT based industrial park, proposed to be established near to the Info park at Kakkanad. Tecom, a dubai based technology, electronics, commerce and media zone authority was the company behind this project. It is similar to the internet city of Tecom in dubai. It was proposed to concentrate on different sectors such as Information Technology, Banking, Sails and marketing, Business service consultancy and biotechnology. Oomman chandy government was all set to sign the project but due to the lack of time due to the declaration of legislative assembly elections, it remained on papers.
Achuthananthan government which replaced Oomman chandy's ministry, was against some clauses like giving Infopark to tecom and they changed the clauses and signed the papers. But the signed version was a lot different from the one proposed by the Oommen chandy government. The work was started and the stone was laid 3 years before. But unfortunately , the project is yet to begin. Apart from board meetings, nothing was done during these years. Due to the land right issues, even the building works are postponed.
Oomman chandy and the UDF was always urging the government to start the project. But there was no response from the government and the project is still a dream. The smart city project at Malta, which was signed at the same time, is all set to function...but here, not even the building works had started.
The project which is all set to make kochi as an IT hub of India and to bring thousands of job opportunities should be fulfilled. Oomman chandy should start this project which was his dream once, during his next reign itself. Hope the next government led by Mr Chandy can fulfill this dream project of Kerala
