Anwar Malayalam Movie Review

Anwar Movie review Starring Proithiviraj,Prakashraj,Mamta,Lal.The slow motion shots and songs from this movie are simply superb , must watch.

Anwar
The basic story revolves around a Coimbatore bomb blast and its aftermath. The police swoop down on as many suspects or otherwise as they could (mostly Muslims). Among them are Babu Sait (Lal) and his gang. In prison he meets Anwar (Prithviraj) who is arrested for hawala case ,he later in the movie joins hands with Babu Saitas he is a muslim and later he becomes his right-hand. Stalin Manimaran (Prakash Raj), the head of the Anti-Terrorist Squad is in pursuit to bring these terrorists down.Actually Stalin is the guy who has sent Anwar to find out more details about Babu sait and his gand to bring them down.Anwar had lost his parents in the bomb blast which urges him to take revenge on those who have done it.Stalin has his card Anwar do the rest ,Stalin gets the perfect guy Anwar a muslim to catch the culprits.Anwar palces bombs in police station .When he reaches Babu saits camp he hears in news that 3 people were killed in the blast, his face clearly depics the saddness in his heart but he diverts the whole scene by asking Babu sait that inspite of taking huge risk only 3 were killed and he is unhappy with that. This scene is something very touching, somehting in his heart and someother words.Stalin is later killed by the gangs of Babu sait when Stalin had bought Mamta to see Anwar. From thereon Anwar take on the leadrole

The dialogues in the movie were kept to a minimum but whatever there is it creates as much impact and sharpness. Performance wise Prithviraj played his part as Anwar extremely well. The introduction of Prithviraj could have been much better but it was thrilling. Lal is a powerhouse with his immense screen presence. Prakash raj and Mamta havedone their roles with immense perfection.

Anwar is not just an action packed movie that you can't enjoy with family. It does not have excessive violence. It clearly depicts the theme that all the muslims are not terrorists.

In the climax scene the sight of Prithvi picking up the gun from the sands after doing namaz and walking towards the terrorists had a thrilling effect, along with that BG score. After a yell of 'Allah Ho Akbar' it was a sight to savour what follows. The effects of blood splashing out from the bodies were very well edited without being gory. It's impossible though not to question why he preferred to fight the terrorists with his fists and knife instead of shooting them all down. We have seen it plenty in other movies where the hero has a gun in his hand but to exaggerate the climax action scene he would rather take them on with his fists.

The songs are tuned by Gopi Sundar , Kizhakku Pookkum, sung by Shreya Goshal is a modern style maapila paattu with excellent choreography and costumes. The other one is Kanninema Neele, again sung by Shreya Goshal . Towards the end of the movie there is a video song shown that is sung by Prithvi and Mamta. With its good beats and lyrics it wasn't a bad way to end a movie that is based on terrorism on a spirited note.

There has been plenty of terrorism based movies in Malayalam. But Anwar is a league apart in terms of its style and importantly the subject is not dealt with a heavy hand. This movie was on one of the unique of its kind,Action packed and lots of suspense.
