Helicopter taxi services have been launched in Kerala from the Cochin International airport at Nedumbassery. These services are expected to boost Kerala tourism which is at present improving day by day.
About heli tourism in Kerala
The Tourism in Kerala is getting a new boost through the helicopters. Heli taxi services are being launched with the association of 30 tour operators to give impetus to the Tourism in Kerala. This Heli Taxi services will be a boon to the pilgrims to Sabarimala as The Travancore Devaswom Board has given permission for operating to Nilackal at the foot hills of the hills of sabarimala. For emergency purposes, like casualty purposes or for security reasons, this services could be extended to Saramkuttiyal near the sannidhanam Separate Heli pads readied at the Cochin International airports
Helicopters have been launched by Kochi International airport at Nedumbassery on 19th October 2010. These services are being provided by Bharath Airways Private Limited situated at Bangalore, who have 20 years of experience in these operations.At Kochi airport a new terminal has been provided with 4 - 5 helipads just for the heli tour services.About the helicopters used for Heli tourism
The Great India Tour company in association King Rotors and Air Charters have started a series a helicopter flights using an American made Bell-407 which can easily carry 2+5, in total 7 persons.
At first helicopter services will only be up to Nilackal from Kochi, which is situated near the Lord Ayyappan's Sabarimala, a well known pilgrimage center in Kerala.
The other tour packages planned by the Kerala Tourism will be a 30 minute helicopter tour of Thiruvananthapuram, a backwater tour from the capital to Kumarakom, a shoreline flight to Kanyakumari and a hilly flight to Munnar and Thekkady.About the Tour packages with Heli Tourism
The Heli tour packages are being launched so that visitors can be easily taken from one place to another in a seven seater helicopter to save time as well as discomfort on the roads. GITC is also planning a bouquet of other tourism packages as well including sports, Golf, Rural and medical tourisms. In association with the Golf club GITC is also taking up Golf Tourism with support also from the Kerala Tourism department.
