Erring Flight Operators to be punished by a new Saudi Law
General Authority of Civil Aviation, KSA, has come out with a new law to punish airlines that cause delays in flights. Various compensation packages are announced for the affected passengers.

General Authority of Civil Aviation of Saudi Arabia has made an important announcement that passengers travelling through air ports in that country will receive compensation of SAR 300 per hour if there is any delay in their flights. This is as per article 19 of a new law, which will come into effect within 10 days.
Those airline companies that cause delay in flights will be required to provide accommodation and food to passengers in case any alternative flights are not arranged for the travel. As per the new rule, if the delay in flights are more than 6 hours, the erring flight companies will be required to pay a compensation of SAR 300 per hour to the stranded passengers. The GACA will have the authority to cancel the licenses of the erring companies operating in the Kingdom. Airline companies will have to pay a fine of SAR 50,000 per violation.
As per the new law, if the flights are delayed by 1 hour, airline companies will have to serve drinks to the passengers. If the delay is three hours, they will have to serve meals to the affected passengers, and if the delay is 6 hours, they should be accommodated in hotels.
If a passenger of special needs is refused boarding after ticket has been issued and did not receive necessary facilities at the air port, he / she will have the right to get 200% of the ticket fare in addition to compensation for refusing to board the flight, as per the law.
