Dress Guidelines for Woman going for Job or Interview

A professional suit is the best bet for a woman on a job interview, no matter what the level of job. Although acceptable styles and colors vary more for women than for men, follow these general suggestions:

1. Choose a style with a flattering but professional fit. No short skirts or skin-tight styles.

2. Steer clear of overly bold suit patterns or colors. You want to look serious and professional, not flighty and unmanageable.

3. Solids, muted plaids, and pinstripes are all acceptable interwing attire. The best colors to stick with are grays, navy, and black.

4. Your blouse should be simple rather than flashy, and its color should be subtle and professional. A crisp, white blouse is safe and looks sharp with everything.

5. Avoid jewelry that draws attention to itself. It should add accent to your overall look, rather than dominate it.

6. A string of pearls or a delicate chain is appropriate neckwear for a woman on an interview. Pins are acceptable and can look professional, yet at the same time add a bit of panache to an outfit. A well-tied scarf can achieve the same result, but beware of garish patterns.

7. Earrings should be small and subtle. No large hoops or dangles.
