The The Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda College and hospitals at Thaikkattussery, Ollur belongs to the Vaidyaratnam Group, established by , by the great visionary, the late Ashtavaidyan Padmasree E.T. Neelakandan Mooss. The college was founded on 2nd October 1976 and is under the management of Vaidyaratnam Ayurvedic Educational Society,. Prof. P.V. Devassia was the first Principal of the College. The college is located at Thaikkattussery, near Ollur in Thrissur district. It is about 10 km away from Thrissur city.Courses
The College offers B.A.M.S. (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) Degree Course. Since 1983-84, admission to the course has been through Common Entrance Examinations conducted by the Government of Kerala.
The Degree program is in accordance with national unified syllabus of the Central Council of Indian Medicine. This college is under the academic jurisdiction of University of Calicut. The number of seats available are 40 students per year. Norms of the e Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) is applicable to the college.ELIGIBILITY
Candidates should have passed Higher Secondary Examination of the Board of Higher Secondary Education, Kerala or the examination recognized equivalent thereto with 50% marks in Biology separately and 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology put together.DURATION OF COURSE
Degree Course : 5½ years
I Professional : 18 months
II Professional : 18 months
III Professional : 18 months
Internship : 12 months
The first 18 months shall be dedicated to the study of the pre-clinical subjects. It is compulsory for students to pass the first and second professional exam before getting promoted to the third professional level. At the end of the course, successful students will be awarded Ayurvedaachaarya (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery).Facilities
The college has administrative and academic blocks, hospitals, auditorium, herbal garden, hostels for men and women and facilities for sports and games. Besides providing ample academic inputs, the various departments and affiliated facilities also contribute towards research that is on par with international standards. The college has 13 teaching departments. A panchakarma department is also mooted.Hospitals
The College has a campus hospital and another one at Poochinnippadam about 3 km away from the college. These hospitals are endowed with all the modern diagnostic and clinical infrastructure that are required for a medical teaching institution.Library
