National Entrance Screening Test-2011 (NEST-2011), the Entrance Test for Admission to National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar and University of Mumbai -Department of Atomic Energy Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences, (UM-DAE CBS) Mumbai, for the Academic session 2011-12 will be held on May 29, 2011 (Sunday) from 2 pm to 5 pm.

National Entrance Screening Test (NEST) is a mandatory test for those seeking admission to National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar and University of Mumbai-Department of Atomic Energy Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences (UM-DAE CBS), Mumbai.

Courses in NISER


NISER offers a 5-year integrated M.Sc. Programme in Basic Sciences. It has four major schools, namely Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics. After successful completion of the academic requirements students are awarded a Master of Science Degree in one of Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics or Physics.

Eligibility for NEST 2011


Applicant should have obtained at least 60% marks in aggregate (or equivalent grade) in Class XII (or equivalent) examination from any recognized Board in India.
For SC, ST candidates and for Persons with Disability (PD), the minimum requirement is 55%.
Only those who have passed the Class XII qualifying examination in 2009 or 2010 or are appearing in 2011 are required to apply.

Age Limit for NEST 2011


General Applicants and Other Backward Castes (OBC) should have been born on or after 1st October 1986.
For SC/ST/PD candidates, a relaxation of 5 years allowed.

Examination Pattern for NEST 2011


The Question paper of NEST 2011 will have five sections. The first section is compulsory for all candidates. It will include general questions. The next four sections will include questions from (a) Biology (b) Chemistry (c) Mathematics and (d) Physics.
Candidates may opt to answer any three of the four sections.
All sections carry equal marks.
The questions will be objective type with four answers given for each question. There may be one or more correct answers for each question.
Wrong answers will be awarded negative marks.
The questions will be aimed at testing the comprehension and analytic ability of the candidates.

The syllabus for the entrance examination (Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics) is given in Appendix II of the Brochure.

It is basically same as CBSE syllabus of 12th standard.
The General section will include major historical milestones in Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics.
There may be questions based on Mathematics up to 10th standard in the general Section.

Application Fee for NEST 2011


Application fee is Rs.600/- for General category and OBC male candidates.
For SC/ST/PD candidates and female candidates the fee is Rs.300/-.

'NEST- 2011', payable at Bhubaneswar.

Result of NEST 2011


Results of NEST examination will be announced on June 20, 2011 on NEST web site. Names of candidates considered eligible for admission to NISER and UM-DAE CBS will be listed in descending order of their scores.
There will be separate lists for NISER and UM-DAE CBS.
The dates of counseling for NISER and UM-DAE CBS will be announced on their respective web pages and the candidates will also be informed by letters.
