There is one more day for the meeting between the Chief Minister and the representative of the Dubai government for the talks of much-delayed Smart City project in Kochi. If the meeting proves fruitful, the construction work of the proposed Smart City Kochi project will be launched within weeks. As told by the Principal IT Secretary K. Suresh Kumar, the main agenda of the meeting will be the agreement of the Dubai Government about the condition that freehold rights over 12 per cent of land can be granted to Tecom only in the SEZ area. If the Dubai Government agreed to this, the construction work will begin within weeks, he said. At this time, let us take a look at the current status of the proposed smart city project.

The previous lease deed set years before had expired, so the Government will cancel it and sign a new lease deed within a week.Of the 246 acres identified for the project, for about 133 acres, the formalities for acquiring SEX status has almost been completed. But, the SEZ formalities for 100 acres land previously owned by KSEB will take time because the application for the same had not been filed. No need to worry because the construction will commenced on the other 133 acres. Another restriction is a PWD road passing through the 100 acres and the foundation for three towers constructed by KSEB for oen of its substation. The PWD road constructed recently have to be moved to the outside of the plot.
