Kozhikode has been declared as Plastic Waste free District.
Plastic Free Kozhikode
Kozhikode became the first plastic waste free district in India. On 30th Jan 2011, National Commission for Minority educational institution chairman Justice M.S.A Siddiqui declared Kozhikode as plastic waste free district.
The campaign,Mass Action for Plastic-waste-free Kozhikode (MAP), started on 2nd October under the initiative of the district administration, lead by Collector P.B Salim.
On Republic Day, more than three lakh people participated to form an 82-KM long human chain to pledge Kozhikode district free from plastic waste.
This campaign will continue to make people aware the danger of using plastics and encouraging them to use an alternative material like cloth or paper bags, etc.
