S A Jameel was a famous mappila pattu singer and lyricist. He is popular in mappila songs through his 'Dubai Kathupaatu'. S A Jameel has his own style in singing and he dedicated his whole life to Maappilapaattu. It was in 1976, he came with his Dubai Kathupaatu. S A Jameel-Early Life
S A Jameel was born in 1935 in Nilamboor, a village near Malappuram district in Kerala. His father Sayed Mohammed Jalaaludheen (SMJ Moulana) was a famous psychiatrist and a follower of Mohammed Abdul Rahman Sahib. Nilamboor Shaji who is famous for the song 'Ahadhonte Thirunaamam' is the brother of S A Jameel. S A jameel also follows his family tradition being a psychiatrist and was getting time to write Mappilapaattu. In that days, the Maappila paattu field entirely depends on Moyinkutty Vaidyar and some others. S A Jameel and P.Baskaran contribute their best to Maappila pattu with their beatiful songs in natural muslim language.

Although Dubai Kathupaatu is the masterpiece of S A Jameel, he had given us many other beautiful mappila songs. Some of his famous songs are 'Kathum Marupadiyum', 'Thangal visa', 'Viraku Sundhari', 'Galfukarante Bharya','Ningalkorallaahu pore'. We remembered S A Jameel through his masterpiece song Dubay Kathu pattu. Every Gulf Malayalees in 1970's had this song in their song collection. Even now, the song topped among the Mappila songs and continue to sing in many reality shows and stage programmes. Recently, we celebrated the Silver Jubilee of this song in Vandoor in a great function and had given a tribute to S A Jameel. The starting of the song is like this:'Ethrayum Bahumanapetta' and includes some funny and touching lyrics like 'Annu naam madhuram nukarnoree maniyara, Innum njan paarkkum thadankal thadavara, njan pennennu ningal orkanam' etc. Dubay Kathu Pattu was marketed by HMV company and had sung by Ambili. Later there is a song also came out 'Barthavinte Marupadi' as a reply of husband to wife which was sung by S A Jameel himself.
Controversies related to S A Jameel
One of his song 'Ningalkorallaahu pore' had raised controversies among muslim societies when the song released. This song was the most reviewed one for its lyrics. There were many controversies regarding the lines in the song which seems to compare 'Ajmil and Shabarimala' together. The song was a hot topic in Mujahid programmes.
