2007 Jnanpith award presented to ONV Kuruppu
Jnanpith award for the year 2007 has been awarded to ONV Kuruppu from Dr. Manmohan Singh, The Prime Minister of India on 11th February 2011.

The famous Malayalam poet Shri ONV Kuruppu has been awarded by Jnanpith Award from Manmohan Singh, The Prime Minister of India. The award belongs to ONV for the year 2007. ONV Kuruppu was the fifth Keralite after G Sankara Kuruppu (1965), S K Pottakkad (1980), Thakazhi Sivasankarapilla (1984) and M T Vasudevan Nair (1995) who got the prestigious Njanapath Award. Moreover ONV Kuruppu is the first poet from Kerala to receive this great award. All the others got it for short story and novel writing. Kerala Chief Minister Shri V S Achuthanandan, National defense minister A K Antony, Vayalar Ravi, Umman Chandi, M A Baby, Sasi Tharoor etc were also presided in the award giving ceremony.
