Egypt's Hosni Mubarak Steps Down
According to Egyptian state television, Hosni Mubarak has stepped down as President of Egypt. It is reported that he had left his home in an affluent Cairo suburb on Friday, with powers transferred to the Army. Whereabouts of Mr. Mubarak is not known.
Mubarak's resignation came as surprise as he refused to step down during his address to Egyptian people Thursday evening. Army had pledged support to him. It is not known what prompted him to take this drastic decision. Despite his adamant stance on clinging to power, Egyptians did not give up their struggle, and thronged streets across the country shouting "Mubarak must go."
