Cybercity at Kochi
Kochi is now all set for another jump in the field of IT. At Kalamassery, near HMT, the construction work for the proposed Cybercity starts today. Though the Foundation stone for the city was laid in 2008, owing to certain delay in procuring the required land, the construction work was delayed.
The project is being implemented by Blue Star Realtors, a subsidiary of Housing Development and Infrastructure Limited (HDIL), in an area of 70 acres of land with an investment of Rs.2,500 crores.
In the first phase they plan to construct three buildings with an area of ten lakh square feet which will be completed in two years with an investment of Rs.500 crores.
Within 9 years in two phases the whole work will be completed. One crore square feet work place is planned. Out of this about 70% will be set apart for IT purposes. The campus will have shopping malls, apartments, convention centre and such other common facilities.
About 60,000 people will get direct employment once the project become functional. Indirectly several thousands also will be employed. A total employment of 1.8 lakh persons are estimated.
