Malayalam Film Actress Arunmula Ponnamma was born and brought up in Aranmula, Pathanamthitta, Travancore. Even at the tender age of 12 she could be able to perform well in Carnatic Music and she has voiced her singing in many meetings conducted by Hindu Mahamandal on the banks of the Pampa river. Arunmula Ponnamma was appointed as music teacher at Pala a primary school and joined a course at Swati Tirunal Music Academy and thereby she got appointment as music teacher in Cotton Hill Girls' High School in Trivandrum.Aranmula Ponnamma Entry into Film Industry
Before entering into the Malayalam film industry, she made her acting in many plays and at the age of 29, Aranmula Ponnamma first play was on 'Bhagyalakshmi' opposite Augustine Joseph who played the lead role in the play and who is the father of well known singer K.J. Yesudas. Malayalam Film Actress Ponnamma entered into the silver screen with Malayalam film 'Sasidharan(1950) as mother character. In the same year she played the title role in Malayalam Film 'Amma'which was produced by T.E.Vasudevan and it is the fifth film of Ponnamma. But she also played some negative roles too notably 'Paadunna Puzha' and some other films. But throughout her career in the film industry, she casted mostly as mother charachter and she got this inspiration from her mother Parukutty Amma. In her career of 60 years,from 1950s to 1990s right from the days of Thirukurissi Sukumaran Nayar to third generation actors Mohanlal and Sureshgopi she played as mother and grandmother roles in numerous films. Aranmula Ponnamma Passess Away
Now the great grandmother of Malayalam Film Industry Aranmula Ponnamma has passed away today Feb. 21, 2011, at a private hospital in Trivandrum. Two weeks ago she fell down and had a surgery. Aranmula Ponnamma final rituals will take place at Shanthikavadam on tomorrow evening at 6Pm.
