Australia defeated Zimbabwe by 91 runs in their opening match in the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup.

Australia won their opening match in ICC Cricket World Cup, 2011, against Zimbabwe.. The match was Played at Sardar Patel Stadium, Motera, Ahmedabad. After winning the toss, Australian captain Ricky Ponting elected to bat first. The Australians started with a slow innings. But at last they managed to score 262 at a loss of 6 wickets. Australian opener Shane Watson scored 79 runs from 92 balls. Australian captain, Ricky Ponting got run out between the wicket. He scored 28 runs from 36 balls. Other than Shane Watson, only Clarke scored well to bring their score to 262. For Zimbabwe, CB Mpofu took 2 wickets from nine overs at an economy rate of 6.44. RW Prince, P UItseya, AG Cremer took one wicket each for Zimbabwe.

In return, Zimbabwe scored only 171 runs. They got all out before the bowling line u of Australia. But Zimbabwe openers gave a good opening for them. But their most expected batsman, CK Coventry got out by Bret lee. AG Cremer topped for Zimbzbwe by scoring 37 runs from 51 balls at an average of 12.5. For Australia, Johnson took wickets from 9.2 overs at an economy rate of 2.03. SW Tait and JJ Krejza took 2 wickets and B Lee and DJ Hussy 1 wicket each for Australia to finish Zimbabwe at 171 from 46.2 overs.

Australian opener Shane Watson was awarded the Man of the Match for scoring 79 runs for them.
