Pakistan won their second match in theICC World Cup after winning against Srilanka in the Group A match held at Colombo. Pakistani Captain Shahid Afridi won the toss and elected to bat first. They scored a total of 277 runs from 50 overs. Misbah Ul Haq top scored for Pakistan. He scored a astonishing 83 of 91 balls. Younis Khan scored 72 of 76 balls and made a good partnership with Misbah. for Srilanka, Perara and Herath took 2 wickets each. Muralitharan again failed to impress his fans. He took only one wicket at the economy rate of 3.50.

Srilanka gave a good chase for the Pakistanis, but the middle order batmen failed to maintain the momentum. Their openers, Tharanga and Dilshan gave a ompressive opening partnership of 76 runs. But they lost quick 3 main wickets when the score crossed 88 on the board. After that Sangakara and C Silva gave a hope for the Srilankan players. But they lost Sanagakara in the 38th over. Kulasekara gave a last fight back by hitting 2 fours and 1 six. But Pakistani bowlers finshed their innings for 266 runs. Afridi took 4 wickets at an economy rate of 3.40 and was adjudged as the Man of the Match.
