Opening Ceremony
The 34th National Games was held from 12th t0 26th February 2011 in Jharkhand. The Governor of Jharkhand inaugurated the opening ceremony of the 34th National Games at the Birsa Munda athletics Stadium on 12th February. The opening ceremony started with the National Anthem and after that there was march past of about 28 states and 5 union territories. The games were conducted at three places: Ranchi, Jamshedpur and Dhanabad. The infrastructure made by the government for the Games was astonishing and was at the same level to the common Wealth Games held at Delhi.Final Result
Services Bagged the overall winners with a total of 70 golds, 50 silver and 42 bronze. Manipur secured the second place with 48 golds while Haryana spotted third in the medal table with 42 golds. The hosts secured 5th position. Kerala spotted the seventh position with a total of 30 golds in the table. Kerala bagged the overall championship in the Athletics. Most of the medal came from athletics. This year performance in athletics was not appreciable compared to last year performance, but managed to clinch the overall. keralas unexpected Golds in some games event helped kerala to attain the seventh position.Medal tally
Closing Ceremony
After 14 days of intense competition, hosts Jharkhand put up a glittering closing ceremony. The closing Ceremony was conducted again in the same Birsa Munda athletics Stadium on 26th February. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Union Sports Minister Ajay Maken skipped the ceremony in the last moment due to some official work. Suresh Kalmadi "declared the National Games close". The 35,000-capacity venue was jam packed as people enjoyed a cultural evening featuring Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif and singer Shaan. With the games ending, Jharkhand passed on the Indian Olympic Association flag to Kerela, hosts of the 35th National Games. After that Kerala presented a special show of 12 minutes in the Closing ceremony.
