In Kerala, the gods own country temple festivals are celebrated with much of pomp and splendor. Thirunnakkara Aaratuu is one of the Kerala's most famous temple festivals. This is celebrated at the Sri Thirunnakkara Mahadeva temple. This temple is located in the heart of the Kottaym district of Kerala. Lord Siva (Mahadeva) is the preceding deity of the temple. The festival continues for 10 days starting from 15th march to 24th march
Arattu (Holy bath) is a part of the rituals of the festival here and it is the most famous one. In this ritual,the priest takes the Deity form of the god with him and takes a bath in Holy Water. This is carried out on the final day of the Festival.Attractions in Thirunnakkara Arattu Festival 2011
The third and the fourth days
These days are most splendidly celebrated. On these days performances of famous Mayilattom (the
peacock dance) would be held. Other performances like Velakali and Kathakali, the traditional dance
forms of Kerala are also held.
Ninth day :
It is the second last day of the festival and is known for the famous Pullivetta, the pageant of beautifully
decorated elephants along with the performances of Mayilattam and Velakali
Tenth day :
This is the final day.The celebration is concluded with the famous Arattu, (the holy bath).Aarattu is
followed by a procession of nine majestic and beautifully decorated elephants.
A lot of people from different part of the state and the country gather here on this auspicious day. They
offer their prayers in the Mahadeva temple.
