Laptops for Kerala teachers
Let's look how Kerala government is promoting IT education sector by giving laptops and netbooks to teachers
Nearly 50,000 teachers of Kerala will get laptops and netbooks at discount price. This was announced by IT@school project, one of the major branch of Kerala government's educational department. Project aims in enhancing the educational facilities of Kerala. Mr. Anwar Sadath is the director and head of Kerala IT@school project. According to his wish, laptop should be an item included in every teacher's bag just like their lunch box. Now let's look into the project details. Teachers can buy laptops and netbooks with a discount rate ranging nearly 36 to 37 percent. Laptops with Rs. 28,000 as their market price are available with Rs 17,700. Also, teachers can get netbooks at Rs 11,450 which costs Rs 18,000 initially. Usually laptops are available with 1 year warranty, but these laptops are given 3 years warranty including their adapter and battery.
Laptops given in project come with 2 hours battery back up and netbooks comes with 6 hours battery back up. These laptops will be initially loaded with Kerala IT@school's Edubuntu software and other open softwares. Sadath announced that these laptops will be delivered on first come first serve basis. As per rules, teachers should not use these laptops for any other personal use. Wipro and Infosystems are some of the companies who made these laptops. Each laptop comes with 2GB DDR3 memory and 160GB hard disc capacity for storing information. Laptops are done with Celeron M 900 to Intel Pentium dual core processor and netbooks comes with Intel Atom processor and 1GB DDR3 RAM. Let's hope this project will improve the IT education sector of Kerala.
