Mahatma Gandhi University, which is also known as M G University,was established on 2 October 1983 in Kottayam. The University has 223 affiliated colleges offers various academic programmes. This includes Gandhian Thought, International Relations & Politics, Physics, Rehabilitation Psychology, Journalism, Chemical Sciences, Environmental Sciences and Disaster Management etc. Dr. P. M. Rajan Gurukkal is the present Vice Chancellor of the University.
Every year around 1,50,000 are enrolled in the University for different courses like graduate, post graduate and M.Phil/Ph.D. programmes in various departments and colleges.
The University campus is located in a beautiful atmosphere at Priyadarshani Hills 13 Kilometres from Kottayam.
