Ragi porridge is one of the first solid foods given to babies from around 4 to 6 months. Well, doctors usually recommend starting solids for babies from 6 months. Ragi is very good for babies as thery are rich in nutrient value. Ragi is rich in proteins,carbohydrate and minerals. It is a very good source of iron. Below is the detailed procedure for making ragi porridge.
1. To make ragi porridge, soak the ragi for 12 hours, then drain and put it in a cloth. Keep it moist so that it sprouts.
2. Then, either roast it or dry it in the shade. Finally, powder it finely, sieve well. Store the powder in an air tight container.
3. Make a mixture of ragi powder and water and put it on the stove top and keep mixing it till it solidifies. Soon the colour will change and nice aroma will come.
At this point take off from the stove top.
4. Finally, add a little ghee and jaggery for sweet taste.
If you wish, you can also add milk to it. You can also add salt instead of jaggery.
