Film star is the latest Malayalam film which was released on April 14th 2011. The film shows Kalabhavan mani as a multilingual movie star and Dileep as a film lover. The film has a similar narrative to movies such as 'Udhayanaanu thaaram' and 'Kadha parayumbol'. Just like it is shown in these past movies, this film's story also portrays the life of film makers and the people connected to the film industry. The script of the film has been written by S Suresh Babu.
The working union of Kalabhavan mani and Dileep is the highlight of this film. Both the actors are playing very important roles in the film. The story of Film Star revolves around the relationship between a film star and a villager. This one line is enough for anyone to get reminded of the film 'Kadha parayumbol' wherein a film star and a villager are best friends. But Film Star has a different aspect to this kind of relationship. The duo is brought close to each other through various incidents which occur in their lives. Story of Film Star
Kalabhavan mani essays the role of Sooryakiran who is the present day superstar in the world of cinema and who had to struggle a lot to reach the pinnacle of success as a celebrity. Sooryakiran is presently a superstar in Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu. Dileep essays the role of a script writer by the name of Nandhagopan. Nandha is the son of the local communist leader 'Daivam Gopalan'. After the death of his father, Nandha had to cremate him within his small house itself as he failed to acquire any other land for the purpose. One day, Nandha goes to Sooryakiran with a script in hand to narrate the same to the actor who is extremely busy with new films and a tight schedule. Nandha tries to meet Sooryakiran many times in order to read out his script to the star but Sooryakiran did not have enough time to pay heed to him. The star tantrums finally agitate Nandha to such an extent that he just throws the scripts towards Sooryakiran and goes away from the room.
Under these circumstances, Sooryakiran is provoked to read the scripts and is deeply fascinated by the story that Nandha wishes to portray through the media. The script is about Nandha's village itself (Chittaramthody) where the poor villagers were forced to relocate their homes to other places so that a factory could be built up in those areas.
Sooryakiran is moved by the story and decides to make a movie out of the script. He himself went to the village and did a lot of research on the people and the bad situations that they had to face. It is during his visits that he learns about the murder of a leader comrade called Raghavan whose death seemed very mysterious. Even Nandha was mercilessly abused when he tried to find out the truth behind the murder of Raghavan. All these incidents leads to Sooryakiran deciding to find out a way to help the villagers in order to come out of their plight. Film Star shows that the effect of celebrities on the common people is immense and that if they become a mediator in activist programs they have the ability and influence to bring about wonderful changes in the society. The film features four songs which are composed by Benny Johnson and Vijayan Poonjar.
