Balakrishna Pillai is that in 1971 he won the Lok Sabha election from Mavelikkara constituency & till 1977 he served as the member of the parliament. On 10 February 2011, the Supreme Court sentenced R. Balakrishna Pillai for one year imprisonment in the idamalayar dam corruption case. So R. Balakrishna Pillai was sent to poojapura central prison in Trivandrum. On 18 May 2011, R. Balakrishna Pillai was given unconditional parole for 10 days. In the 2011 Kerala assembly election, held on April 13, K. B. Ganesh Kumar, son of R. Balakrishna Pillai had won the Pathanapuram constituency. It should be noted that K. B. Ganesh Kumar will be the tourism as well as sports minister of Kerala state in india.
