At the state level too, Meera has received two awards from Kerala State Film Awards and one award from Kalaimamani Awards in Tamil Nadu. Till date, Meera has acted in more than 50 films in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada languages. She is one of the few actresses in the cinema world who really possesses the skill in acting and knows how to choose her roles perfectly. In the looks department, she is not as beautiful as many of the other actresses and one could say that she has the looks of a girl-next-door. But the same cannot be said about her acting prowess. Very few actresses can match her in this department and she has not needed to depend upon skin show to gain attention from the audience.

Meera Jasmine's background and education

Meera Jasmine hails from Thiruvalla in Pathanamthitta district in Kerala. She was born on 15th February 1982 to Joseph and Aleyamma. She finished her schooling at Bala Vihar and Marthoma Residential School, both in Thiruvalla. Meera got her first offer into films while she was studying for B.Sc in Zoology at Assumption College, Changanassery. She had hardly finished three months of the course when she was given the offer of a role in Soothradharan by acclaimed director Blessy.

Meera Jasmine's professional career

Meera began her career in the acting field with a small role in the Malayalam film Soothradharan in the year 2001. Though she was not able to create any magic through that film, she went on to get better offers in other languages. It was her entry into the Tamil industry that made her a sensational star overnight. Both her next films were in Tamil namely Run and Bala in 2002 and both the films ran very well at the box office. Meera even went on to receive the Filmfare Best Female debut actress award for Run in 2002. After these films, when she returned back to Malayalam cinema, Meera got better recognition from the audience and was appreciated for her acting in the further films. Most of her films became hits and many people went to watch her films just because she was there in it. Her second film in Malayalam was Gramophone which had Navya Nair and Dileep in the lead roles. She had a small role in it but did it with so much perfection that it was well accepted by the audience. Her next movie, Swapnakoodu, which was a romantic comedy with herself and Prithviraj in the lead, turned out to be a huge box office hit. This film actually had many actors who were given important roles such as Kunchakko Bobban, Jayasurya and Bhavana too but it was Meera's role and acting prowess which gelled with the Malayalam cinema goers. Another film which became a hit at the box office and gave Meera Jasmine a positive response was Kastooriman which was directed by renowned director Lohitadas. Her speciality was that she did all her roles aptly be it in a comic role or an emotional role. She received her first award in Malayalam cinema for Kasthooriman. She has always chosen roles which gave her the scope to expand her acting skills and explore the cinema world better. This came in the form of T.V Chandran's Paadam Onnu Oru Vilapam where she played the role of a 15 year old Muslim girl who was forced to marry an older man. The role gave her a lot of range to nurture her acting talent and she went on to receive the state award as well as the national award as best actress for this film.

Meera Jasmine in Ore Kadal
Another mindblowing performance was given by Meera Jasmine in her next movie, Perumazhakalam where she played the role of Raziya alongside actress Kavya Madhavan. The film is a woman-oriented one which demanded a lot of talent and skill in the acting field. Meera never failed to impress the audience in the role and people cried along with her character due to the tragedies that took place in Raziya's life. After this film, Meera delivered yet another hit film called Achuvinte Amma alongside the experienced actress Urvashi where Meera plays the role of a young, bubbly girl who faces a few problems in her life connected to her mother. Meera thoroughly got into the skin of the character and enacted it with perfection. After this film, she got a role opposite the megastar Mohanlal in Rasanthantram which was yet another blockbuster hit. The film portrayed a simple story which was essayed in a sensational manner. In Rasathantram, Meera also has to play a small part of her role disguised as a boy. It is not easy for a girl to act like a boy but here again Meera did it with ease and made the audience happy with her performance. Her next movie was with actor Dileep in Vinodayathra which was directed by renowned director Sathyan Anthikad. Yet another movie of Meera Jasmine's which got a lot of recognition and won her many awards is Ore Kadal with co-star and megastar Mammotty. Meera played the role of a young innocent middle class woman who was filled with mixed emotions and her portrayal of the character won her many praises from all over the country.

Yet another blockbuster movie in which Meera Jasmine played the main role was director Blessy's Calcutta News. The film showcased the dark side of India where trafficking of women takes place and how a middle class innocent girl (Meera) gets trapped in it. Meera did her fourth consecutive film with director Sathyan Anthikad with his film Innathe Chinthavishayam in 2008. This was one of her few films with megastar Mohanlal in the lead role which did not do very well in the box office though it had created a lot of hype before its release. Her charm slowly began to reduce because her next few films in Malayalam were also not upto the mark and were disasters at the box office. These films were Minnaminnikoottam and Rathri Mazha. After these failures, Meera took a break from Malayalam films for a year and made a good comeback with the film Paattinte Palazhy. This film also did not do well in the cinema industry but Meera's role and performance was well appreciated by the audience. Her next films were Four Friends where she played a cancer patient, and Mohabbat which is a triangular love story. During her one year break from Malayalam films, Meera was active in the other film industries such as Tamil, Telugu and Kannada. In Tamil, she has delivered two more hits with her roles in Aazhutha Ezhuthu and Mercury Pookkal.

In the Telugu industry, Meera became famous with the dubbed version of the Tamil film Run where Meera was given the lead role. Meera's best film in Telugu was Bhadra opposite actor Ravi Teja. Her debut film in Kannada film industry was with the film Maurya opposite actor Puneet Rajkumar. She was part of a hit Kannada movie called Arasu in 2006.
