Several diseases spread very easily in our Kerala. The higher officials say that the unhealthy situation of the surroundings is the main reason for this. Why & how waste should be removed from our Kerala state?
Nowadays there is an important news in the newspaper relating dumping of waste & its unhealthy problems. I hope most people have read in the newspaper dumping of waste in Vadavathoor, located in Kottayam district of Kerala & the unhealthy situations people are facing from it. Action councils were organised by people to fight against the order of Municipality to dump those waste in Vadavathoor. But now the Tipper Lorries that carry this waste are going with police protection & dumping their wastes in Vadavathoor. Eventhough I also had an opportunity to travel through Vadavathoor. The foul smell of those waste are so irritating that it is difficult to travel through this place. If this is the condition of travellers, then what may be the situation of the people living very close to these dumping yards? Before giving orders to dump those wastes in a particular area, it is the duty of the higher officials to decide whether it may be dangerous to the local people. One point is that it is a common behavior to clean our surroundings & to dump those wastes into neighbour's surroundings. In general we can say that when considering a town, some may have the habit of cleaning areas that get more attention & to dump it into the remote areas. Would you think this is a good practice? Some diseases spread very easily in Kerala manily due to the unhealthy conditions of our surroundings. That means we alone are responsible for the spread of those diseases. In general we can say that we are promoting the insects & flies that are spreading those diseases. The action councils organized in Vadavathoor & the local people are crying for their health. If we are in their place, will we allow dumping those wastes? If we take a little care we can protect our people from the unhealthy surroundings of waste. But how can we do this? Check out the below points which may help to protect our God's own country in the future.Use of dust bin
In some places of Kerala there is a common sight showing the dumping of waste along the road sides. Wastes are dumped in large quantities along the road sides. If they are not removed properly then we all know the fact what happens? Mosquitoes & other insects may grow in large quantities & there must be foul smelling of this wastes. It is important to note that there are wet wastes (vegetable peels & left over food) & dry wastes (cardboard, glass, paper). If we take a little care we can prevent all these circumstances. That means diseases that are spread by mosquitoes may get controlled. In our state some diseases are spreading nowadays so fast. We can protect our own health by taking a little care. Its quiet sad to see some house owners are dumping their waste in open spaces very close to their houses. The important point is that they are creating their own diseases. Then how can we blame on others? So to prevent the spread of any diseases or unhealthy conditions arising from the improper disposal of waste several steps should be noted. The first point is that wastes should be collected in plastic bags & tighed properly. Plastic can be recycled & if there is a recycling plant, then the wastes should be collected in plastic bags & placed in separate dust bins.
There should be separate waste bins for collecting wastes which should be recycled & other one which should not be recycled. All people should strictly follow these guidelines. Also note that if there is a plant for recycling the wastes, definitely it should be collected in separate dust bins. If there are no recycling plants, then the waste must be dumped in places very far from the surroundings of human beings. Extreme care must be taken while choosing such a remote place. Make sure that houses are far away from it as per the government rules & there won't be any damage to water used for drinking & any other purposes. It is the duty of the Municipality to take care of this. If people report any type of difficulties, then the higher officials or the concerned person who is in charge must take care of it. Do not avoid it. In the future we can hope for recycling plants in our Kerala state situated in India so that it will be helpful for removing the wastes & to keep our surroundings clean. It is the duty of every ward member to check if people are following this. If anyone disobeys, make them understand the need for doing so & so things. Use of a waste collection vehicle
In our God's own country it is a common fact that wastes are usually transported in Lorries that donot have any cover for these wastes. Another point is that those vehicles while travelling deposit a major part of the waste in the road. Also note that wastes are not completely removed by those persons properly. They are using their own apparatus to take this waste into the Lorries. At that time a small portion will get deposited in the surroundings. My suggestion is if we are able to use a specially designed truck that is suitable for collecting this waste, then thel process becomes very easy. These trucks are known as different names in different parts of the world. I know now you are in an eagerness to know the names of such trucks. So I am giving you the names of such trucks which may help our Kerala state in the coming future. Such trucks are known as waste collection vehicle, refuse collection vehicle, bin lorry, bin motor, trash truck, dump truck, bin wagon, dustcart, dustbin lorry etc. For your convenience I am giving you the picture of a waste collecting vehicle. See its difference when compared to our waste collecting vehicle. You can feel the difference from vehicles itself because our vehicles donot have a cover for this waste. At the same time persons are carrying this waste using their hands & tools. Should wastes be removed regularly?
This question is not to make anyone laugh. You may be thinking that this is a silly question. But remember that this is not a silly question. In Kerala state we often see a picture where wastes are gathered in large quantities & not removed in correct time. Do you know the side effects of this? Several diseases may be spread by means of mosquitoes which lay their eggs inside the wastes. As a result it may affect the health of every human being. So it should be noted that wastes should be removed regularly at alternative days in a week. Another fact it is the duty of every person including the ward members to take care of this process. If the wastes are not removed in correct time, then inform the concerned person immediately. It is the duty of each & every person to protect your own health.
